Sugar block recipe

Mark C

Many beekeepers use sugar blocks or other solid sugar to augment honey stores the bees have put away. Open this entry in a browser to look at a pdf file recipe that I use. I tried to make it helpful for beginning beekeepers. Please let me know if you have suggestions to make the recipe or this blog more useful.

Really nice write-up! Well explained. I use apple cider vinegar in my sugar bricks as well as a small amount of pollen supplement to give the bees some protein. It is important to only use a little pollen supplement or you can cause the queen to start laying again. When I get to the mixing step, I’ve started using my wife’s KitchenAid mixer. It really works well for this.
